Meditations on the Heart
“I will keep my heart open to truth and light.”‌
Join Jamie Jackson on 6 Consecutive Sunday mornings for a powerful, heart-centered practice. Sign up for the full series, or drop in to one or more of the sessions. Details below.
Our lives are often filled with things to do and be: work, family, life, socializing…worry, fear, doubt, expectations. Often times we can unintentionally neglect or miss the heart, the truth in the moment, the small, still inner voice of the heart.
In this six week series we will take some time to slow down, pause and learn to develop and discover our own deeper inner callings of our hearts, through the practices of deep listening, meditation, writing, gentle yoga movement and sharing together. We will be using some of the Women Writing for (a) Change circle writing practices and calling in diverse voices who speak from the heart of life to living the heart of life.
All are welcome at any level of experience – beginner to more experienced practitioners.

This series was inspired by Howard Thurman’s book
“Meditations of the Heart.”
“I will keep my heart open this day to all things that commend themselves to me as truth….I will keep my heart open to light. There are times when the light burns, when it is too bright, or when it is too revealing. Somehow, I must accustom myself to the light and learn to look with steadiness at all that it discloses.”
The themes we will focus on:
Sept 1 Opening the Heart – We live in a very busy, and active world, with many demands to meet every day. This week we will begin to settle in to our hearts, to listen and open beyond the demands, fantasies and expectations of the mind.
Sept 8 Listening to the Heart – This takes practice…our minds are often very active, filled with lots of stories, worries, and concerns from our past, present and future. This week will be an opportunity to begin to develop a relationship to the heart, to slow down and feel and listen to what the heart has to say.
Sept 15 Desires of the Heart – As we begin to open and listen to the heart we may begin to notice a different voice. A small, still inner voice that holds love for ourselves and all others. We may begin to heal the broken pieces and start to hear your deeper desires of the heart, the ones we may pass over easily, the ones that are inclusive and whole.
Sept 22 Love – This week will focus on the language and depth of love. Maybe this is an easy thing to think we know a lot about; we love our families, we love our animals, we love what we do, what we know, and sometimes this can be misleading. It can merely be a mirage of the mind.
Sept 29 Compassion – After all the noise in our minds begin to quiet and our hearts begin to open we may start to feel a deeper well inside of us – compassion. This well holds love for all beings including ourselves. It is not about fixing, changing or pity.
It is a love that is unconditional, it asks for nothing in return, it is a solidarity with our human brothers and sisters and the suffering we all endure.
Oct 6 Justice and Mercy – Love calls us to be stewards to this earth and to each other. To serve humanity with an open, developed heart. This is not easy, “it is simple but not easy” as my teacher likes to say. What does this stewardship and servitude look like for your heart, where does it call us to be in and act in the world on behalf of ourselves and all others, to create a more loving, diverse world, where all are welcome and included, where all have and live in their human rights and dignity.
