PLEASE READ ALL IN ORDER TO PREPARE FOR THE PROGRAM
In this program I'll offer multiple guided meditations, walking meditation, and a few short talks on how we can adopt the pace of nature for a healthier and happier mindset. I'll offer some short talks on nurturing our connection to nature and offering practices you can do on your own to continue that connection. The name of the trail we'll be taking is the "Chilao to Mt Hillyer via Horse Flats Trail" Here is a link to the AllTrails listing for the route. It's rated moderate and will cover roughly 7 miles round trip.
PARKING: We can park at the Chilao Picnic area but please note you need a National Forest Adventure Pass to park for the day. A daily or annual pass can be purchased at the Chilao Visitor Center that opens at 10 AM or at your local REI beforehand. If you are purchasing your parking pass on the day of please allow for more time so we can still leave our hike on time. The parking pass is per vehicle so carpooling is recommended to stay eco-friendly and save money.
10:00 AM : We will meet for this event at the Chilao Picnic Area with check in starting at 10 AM. Please arrive on time as we'll be heading out on the trail promptly at 10:30 AM.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
Please bring plenty of water, at least 32 - 64oz.
I would reccommend arriving having already eaten breakfast.
Warm layered clothes, the temperature will start out cold in the morning with lows up in the upper 40s and warm up as we move into the afternoon with highs in the upper 60s.
A light blanket or mat for sitting on the ground if you'd prefer not to sit on the ground directly.
Comfortable hiking/athletic shoes.
Light snacks for the duration of the hike, you know your body so bring anything you need to make yourself feel comfortable while we're out on the trail. I'd like to suggest packing a lunch and we can all break and eat together at the end of the day and have time to socialize.
FACILITIES: There are porta-potties availble at the Chilao Visitor Center so we can use those before we depart on our hike.
SUGGESTED DONATION:
For this event there is a suggested donation of $20. Feel free to give any amount you are comfortable with. This is by no means an obligation and no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
ABOUT ME:
As a meditation practitioner of over ten years, I've studied a variety of wisdom traditions and stress reduction techniques. My main focus of study has been Buddhist meditation and philosophy. Previously I have led a meditation group for young adults in New Haven, CT. I've participated in multiple retreats and meditation training programs throughout the last 10 years. I feel most at home and grounded when in touch with the natural world and often incorporate that to my meditation teaching. I'm of the belief that our connection to the earth is one of our strongest tools in maintaining our joy and peace.
