About this Event
In celebration of his first art exhibition in Manitoba, meditation instructor and master craftsman Victor Klassen will lead this unique workshop at MHC Gallery.
Begin the day with an introduction to meditation techniques surrounded by the tranquility of the Assiniboine Forest. Then, Victor will lead you through what he calls "no-mind painting" techniques, a way to let go of your inner critic and access the subconscious...ultimately unlocking the beauty of colour and individual expression as you explore with paint and canvas.
Creatives of all skill levels (even if you don't consider yourself an artist!) are welcome at this workshop. All materials are included, but you are welcome to bring along any favourite brushes or paints.
-------------------------
Victor Klassen is an artist with one foot in the material world of art, and one foot in the spiritual world of meditation, creating canvases, sculptures and structures from the world around and the world beyond. Using materials at hand - recycled wood, canvas, paint – he works in conversation with more-than-human elements to make his creative pieces sing.
Having grown up in a rural Mennonite community southern Manitoba, Victor has long split his time between Mexico and Canada. His rural upbringing brought him close to the importance of truth, while Mexico and its culture introduced Victor to the value of beauty. “Seeing” at MHC Gallery marks a homecoming for Victor – the first exhibition of his work in the place where his journey began.
With over 40 years experience as an artmaker, Victor’s painting and woodwork techniques also draw on his training in meditation and Tai Chi, creating a rapid gloss of the artist’s subconscious, and the archetypal images found therein, which is then further detailed by the artist’s hand.
