A study day with masterclasses for those studying medieval and early modern studies
About this Event

We look forward to your joining us at the third annual study day for Medieval and Early Modern Studies in the North-West, to be held at the John Rylands Research Institute and Library in Manchester on Monday 17 June 2024, and co-hosted by the North West Medieval and Early Modern Seminars. We are grateful for their financial support to the John Rylands Research Institute and Library, and to artsmethods@manchester.

The study day will feature a keynote lecture from Dr David Rundle (University of Kent), “The Cultural Geography of the English Quattrocento: situating and displacing Renaissance humanism”, and will be accompanied by two manuscript masterclasses: one led by David himself, and another a Rylands Manuscript Showcase led by colleagues from the Library. All participants will be able to attend both!

There will be book launches from colleagues working in medieval and early modern studies, ‘elevator pitch’ presentations from MA and new PhD students at our institutions, and the award of the annual Manchester University Press Medieval Prize. Lunch and drinks will be provided at the People's History Museum a few minutes walk from The Rylands (due to the New Chapter Project - https://www.library.manchester.ac.uk/rylands/visit/visitor-information/next-chapter/ )

All food will be vegetarian, but if you require a vegan or special dietary requirement meal please contact [email protected]. Please note, to protect the historic library only bottled water is permitted beyond the modern entrance.
