About this Event
Want to learn more about local trees & herbal medicine?
Join clinical herbalist Zhyfhs Millicent as we walk around the Arboretum at the University of Guelph and look at different trees and discuss their medicinal qualities.
You'll learn about:
- which trees can be beneficial for which health conditions or ailments
- what part(s) of the tree you would work with (roots, leaves, inner bark, etc.)
- how to harvest and what time of year is ideal
- information about how to prepare the herbal remedies (drying, boiling, topical application, etc.)
Some of the trees to be discussed include: linden, birch, cedar, white pine, and black walnut. We may also discuss oak, black cherry, and/or juniper.
4 different herbal teas will be provided during the walk, so you can sample the flavour of 3 different trees' leaves/bark (cedar tea, linden leaf & flower tea, white pine bark and white pine needle tea)
Additional Event Details:
✦ This is an easy walk on relatively flat land; it will be more of a "stop and talk about the plants" than an active hike.
✦ Consider bringing your notebook, camera, and questions (and your listening ears and smiles!). Handout with notes about each plant will be provided.
✦ Please BYO mug if you'd like to try the herbal teas.
✦ No previous knowledge or experience necessary—we will NOT be harvesting on this walk.
✦ Please dress accordingly for the weather; this event is happening rain or shine.
✦ If you want to avoid the Eventbrite fees, you can email me to RSVP and send an e-transfer for $15 to [email protected] (security question: Which city? answer: Guelph)
