Medical Summer Youth Program

• PT/OT Camp: June 3rd - June 7th @ University of Indianapolis

This camp is for 9th -12th-grade students who have a love for rehabilitation health care. This is a new camp for MICI-AHEC, in which we will explore the world of rehabilitation professions, specifically related to PT and OT, and see what the requirements, expectations, and education look like to pursue this career.

This camp will be held at the University of Indianapolis which houses its renowned School of Physical Therapy. There will be panel discussions, simulations, and fun games used to explain and learn more about this career option.

• Camp MD: June 10th - June 14th @ IU School of Medicine

This is a weeklong camp held at IU School of Medicine for 9th – 12th grade. This camp is designed for a little more in-depth experience for high school students. In the past students have been taught how to use an EKG machine, including lessons about electrical conduction, exploring an ambulance, visiting the radiation therapy lab at IU Simon Cancer Center, as well as visiting the pathology lab at the IU Health Pathology building. Since the program is led by students each year the volunteers may change the curriculum a little for those students that may participate every year.

• Health Careers Enrichment: July 8th - July 12th @ University of Indianapolis

This camp is for 9th -12th-grade students who are ready to learn about a variety of health careers because their options are open! The primary focus is to increase knowledge of a variety of healthcare fields through panel discussions, lab simulations, degree requirements and expectations for the different careers, how to know which health careers are right for them, demonstrate the practical application of scientific principles, and provide opportunities for unique and fun health-science activities.

• Doctors Camp: June 17th - June 21st @ IU School of Medicine

This weeklong camp is held at IU School of Medicine for 5th -8th grade. This camp is led by IUSM student volunteers. The camp is designed to increase the knowledge of the medical profession, foster an awareness of disease-health careers, facilitate an interest in healthcare careers, encourage college attendance, provide opportunities for college preparedness activities and provide exposure to the health profession.
