Meet the trainers:
Sarah Parfitt is a freelance trainer and radio and podcast producer with more than 30 years’ experience in the media both in the UK and overseas. She has produced various programmes for BBC Radio 4, the BBC World Service and 5Live and prior to that worked as a radio producer for Radio 2GB in Sydney and Blue Danube Radio in Vienna. Sarah recently produced a half hour programme entitled "The Science of the Menopause" for the BBC World Service.
Other highlights of her producing career have included producing a Radio 4 Crossing Continents’ programme about the eco-mafia in Italy and another documentary about the FDLR in eastern Congo, a 5Live investigative outside broadcast into child pornography in Russia and a David Blunkett Outlook Christmas Special.
Sarah has also worked as a freelance communication trainer for the BBC Academy for more than 15 years. She led some of the BBC's 2020 training in the corporation’s bureaux in Africa and Asia. This involved rolling out a variety of courses, including editorial guidelines, interviewing skills and storytelling to the BBC’s new recruits in Nigeria, Kenya, Senegal, India, and Myanmar.
Sarah is also the founder of The Media Hub, the south-east's leading media networking group. The group recently celebrated its 11th birthday and brings together media professionals, including print journalists, producers, directors, writers, bloggers, actors, photographers, media trainers and consultants. Guest speakers have included Ross Kemp, the late Sir Michael Parkinson CBE, Carol Kirkwood and HRH Princess Marie-Esméralda of Belgium.
Alice Dew is an accomplished Producer and Trainer with almost 30 years’ experience in radio, TV, and digital. She’s worked on some of the UK’s biggest websites, programmes and podcasts (Saturday Kitchen, BBC News, Newsround, BBC World Service) and trains international journalists to enhance their broadcasting skills. Alongside Sarah she’s recently produced podcasts on subjects as diverse as why we don’t have a global currency to the most eco-friendly way of dealing with death! Additionally, she collaborates with an environmental charity specializing in Community Energy, which won the Climate Coalition’s Innovative UK Community Project in 2023.
