Trainer: Sue M. Davies is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire’s Business School with a special interest in the management of non-profit organisations. Before joining the University in 2021 she worked in the heritage sector for several decades. She has developed and delivered a range of projects in museums and has developed resources for museums such as Data Driven Museums.

What will be covered?

Join us to spend an afternoon looking at how to make the numbers work harder for you.

We all know we should be counting things – visitor figures, users of our websites, people from different communities, people from our local area etc but we could all improve how we use the data they give us.

After the session museums can sign up for 1-1 support with Sue to help embed their learning and put the ideas into practice.

Who should attend?

Trustees, Managers, any paid or volunteer staff with a need to understand how to make use of qualitative data for advocacy, organisational learning and creating funding applications etc.

Learning objectives

Sue will take us through some of the practical applications around the figures that you collect to help you achieve more for your museum.

Using them for

1 – achieving your goals

2 – advocacy

3 – fundraising

And how to get them right

1 – picking the right things to measure

2 – how they are picked (who is included etc)

Booking your space

Please note: We require you to complete the full booking form in order to confirm your eligibility for the session. The main booking form questions will appear after you have been through the 'check out' process. If you do not complete this form we will be in contact and reserve the right to cancel your ticket if we do not receive a response.

Eligibility

MDSE is funded by Arts Council England (ACE) to support museums in the South East of England within ACE’s Accreditation scheme. The South East is defined as the local authority areas of:

  • Bedfordshire (Bedford Borough, Central Bedfordshire and Luton Borough)
  • Berkshire (Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor & Maidenhead and Wokingham)
  • Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes
  • Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
  • Essex, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock
  • Hertfordshire
  • Kent and Medway
  • Norfolk
  • Oxfordshire
  • Suffolk
  • Surrey
  • East Sussex and Brighton & Hove
  • West Sussex

We prioritise places on our training programmes for museums which are Accredited or officially Working Towards Accreditation. ACE publishes the official lists of Accredited and Working Towards Accreditationmuseums on its website. Where possible we will make places available for museums which do not meet these criteria but the number of places will vary depending on the event format.

London tickets

MDSE is working with Museum Development London (MDL) to deliver some of our training and development programmes.

If you are working or volunteering for a museum in London you are eligible to attend this session.
