As many of you know, I’ve proudly served on the Council of Community Services board for several years. This year, I’m embracing a personal “call to action,” and I’d love your support.
With SNAP benefits and other federal funding currently on hold, food insecurity is at an all-time high. To help meet this urgent need, I’m organizing a “Meals in a Bag” initiative. These are complete meal kits—each one packaged in a ziplock bag with all the ingredients needed to prepare a simple, nourishing dish. We’ll be distributing them through both the Soup Kitchen (for evening or weekend meals) and the Food Pantry.
Here’s how you can help:
Donate Ingredients: Choose a recipe and either purchase all the items needed or multiples of a single item. You can have them delivered to my home (3703 Hoback Avenue) via DoorDash or online retailers. I’m also happy to pick items up from you.
Join the Packaging Party: Come by on November 10th at 5 PM to help assemble the meal kits at my house (3703 Hoback Avenue). If you have extra gallon-size ziplock bags or large boxes, please bring them along.
Contribute Financially: You can Venmo me at @Lana-Gaskins. Please include “Meals in a Bag” or “MIAB” in the “What is it for” line. Every dollar will go directly toward purchasing ingredients.
Donate Additional Items: A list of general items (included at the bottom of the recipes) can also be donated and will be used in the kits or distributed separately.
