About this Event
What exactly is mead, and how is it different from wine?
While wine is made from fermented grapes, mead is made with fermented honey. Mead can range from dry to sweet and have a multitude of flavors, as different fruits and spices can be added to the fermented honey. Since mead does not require specific environments or climates to be produced, only three main ingredients are used: water, yeast, and honey.
Some of the main differences between mead and wine include mead's lack of tannins, higher alcohol content, and tendency to be sweeter than wine due to the honey used in mead. Mead is one of the oldest beverages in history, enjoyed for thousands of years with new styles and flavors being produced to this day.
You will taste twelve different meads at this event along with a spread of crackers, cheese, grapes and nuts, joined by representatives from the following Ohio meaderies:
- Brothers Drake Meadery - Columbus, OH
- Dutch Creek Meadery - Athens, OH
- Four Fires Meadery - Maumee, OH
- Feisty Brood Meadery - Northfield, OH
Keep an eye out for spring flavors to be announced soon!
