About this Event
The Beauty Initiative is proud to announce a special screening of the groundbreaking documentary Me Period. This award-winning film explores the beauty, challenges, and empowerment of puberty and menstruation through the eyes of Black families. The screening will take place on Saturday, November 15th at African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale.
Me Period dives deep into the intimate and often taboo conversations surrounding menstruation, puberty, and health discovery in Black communities. The film shines a light on how intergenerational discussions, health education, and the lived experiences of everyday families—including special appearances by celebrity mothers Sheryl Lee Ralph and Tabitha Brown—can reshape the way we navigate these sensitive topics.
Following the screening we will engage in a discussion with Board Certified OBGYN and educator, Dr. Jessica White Videa of Ideal Women's Healthcare and Let's Talk About It and Nicky Dawkins, a Period Doula and Founder of Menstrual Market.
