Gene Kenneth of Taytay, Rizal topped the 2024 MCC Pamasko HandogSeventh seed Kenneth Estrellado ruled via tie break the 2024 Metropolitan Chess Center (MCC) Pamasko Handog Invitational Standard Training Games that concluded over the weekend at the Starmall Edsa Shaw in Mandaluyong City.
Actually, Estrellado, who lost his final round against top seed Jose Carlo Castro, created a 4-way logjam along with Castro, third seed Roberto Biron and unrated Juan Carlos Presente with six points apiece after seven rounds of play. Due to higher tie-break points, Estrellado seized the championship and brought home the top purse of P5,000 plus the gold medal and Milo gift pack.
Biron grabbed the second honor and took the P3,000 cash prize plus a silver medal and gift pack from Milo. In third place was Presente and got the cash prize of P2,000 plus a bronze medal and gift pack from Milo while Castro dropped to fourth place due to lower tie-break points and awarded the P1,500 cash prize plus a bronze medal and gift pack from Milo.
Rounding off the top ten winners who received P1,000 cash prize plus bronze medal and Milo gift packs each were: Cleiford Kortchnoi Molinyawe (5th); Emmanuel Barbosa (6th); Chester Jeff Domalanta (7th); Randy John Pablo (8th); Andrew Sopungco (9th); and Avi Cohen (10th).
The respective category winners who were given each the P750 cash prize plus gold medal and Milo gift packs were: AFM Felix Duterte (Top Senior); AGM Alwin Sopungco (Top Adult); John Andrei Teodoro (Top Provisional Adult); Abiel Bronto (Top Junior- male); Queen Sheylee Tolentino (Top Junior female); Israel Cohen (Top kiddies 9-12year old) and Javin Alexavier Orivida (Top Kiddies 8-year-old & below).
All participants were also given gift packs from the supporting Milo, the country’s No. 1 energy drinks in the country.
