MY BROTHERS KEEPER - GIRLS EQUITY NETWORK SUMMIT 2024We invite all communities in Michigan to join us in Lansing (location TBD) for the My Brothers Keeper - Girls Equity Network Summit! How can education, economic, environmental and electoral justice produce equitable results for Michigan's children? We are excited to announce speakers Dr. Pamela Pugh, President of Michigan State Board of Education, Tony Willis, Chief Equity Development Officer of Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP), Ingham County Commissioner Myles Johnson and Angela Waters Austin, Chief Executive Officer of One Love Global.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Youth, parents, educators, legislators, foundations, media, corporate and business leaders, prospective MBK Allies, MBK Communities and communities that want to learn more. We especially welcome Black and Brown business owners to help build a vision for a pre-school to post-secondary entrepreneurship pathway.
HOW DID WE GET HERE?
In September 2014, President Obama launched the My Brother’s Keeper Community Challenge , a call to action for cities, Tribal Nations, towns, and counties to build and execute robust plans to ensure that all young people—no matter who they are, where they come from, or the circumstances into which they are born—can achieve their full potential. Michigan took the Challenge to another level and simultaneously launched Girls Equity Network to ensure we are accountable for equitable results for all Black and Brown children in our communities.
Ten years later and the work continues! Join us for first post-pandemic in-person summit and an (re)introduction to the MBKGEN communities, milestones and our collective focus for Michigan. This is a strategic and action-oriented summit, so please dress comfortably and bring your youth and your local partners. If you are new to MBK GEN, bring a team from your community that you can learn and build with beyond the summit.
