Following the Local Government Act 1972, this became Huntingdonshire District Council. Huntingdon & Godmanchester Town Council was established in 1974, enabling residents to have a direct say at the most local level. Godmanchester left to form its own Town Council in 1982.
Over the past 50 years, the council has been instrumental in preserving Huntingdon’s historic character while also embracing modernisation and growth. It has overseen numerous projects and improvements, from enhancing local amenities to supporting community events.
