Mayor Gloria, Keep Your Promises!

Due to the resurgence of COVID cases and hospitalizations in San Diego County, we are CANCELING this Rally at San Diego City Hall.
The San Diego Mayor's Office has agreed to meet with a small group of SD HEMA organizers that morning, so we DID achieve one of our Demands!
We will keep you posted! Stay as safe as you can.
NO MORE ARRESTS, FINES, SWEEPS OR VEHICLE IMPOUNDMENTS!
HOUSING, NOT HANDCUFFS!
MR. MAYOR, HOW LONG MUST UNHOUSED SAN DIEGANS WAIT FOR OUR RIGHTS?
When Mayoral candidate Todd Gloria promised the voters that he would end the criminalization of homelessness and seriously address the affordable housing crisis, some of us believed him. But over after half a year since he took office, and with the COVID Pandemic throwing more people onto the streets, nothing has changed from his predecessor’s failed policies.
Unhoused people - disproportionately people of color, people with disabilities, single mothers, and elderly people - are still being arrested and fined for the “crime” of being homeless.
Encampments are being cleared, tents and sleeping bags taken. Those sheltering in vehicles are still being heavily fined, deprived of the money they need for food and medicine in order to pay for tickets, threatened with arrests and impoundments of their vehicle homes, segregated from most of the city by the draconian Vehicle Habitation Ordinance and treated as pariahs.
UNHOUSED PEOPLE ARE NOT CRIMINALS! STOP THE BLAME GAME!
No more temporary, congregate shelters that spread disease, deny privacy and are bridges to nowhere! Arrests and ticketing are not the solution!
WE DEMAND:
• Recognize permanent affordable housing as a basic human right. Make creating and preserving such housing for everyone the first priority in the City.
• An immediate moratorium on enforcement of laws that target unhoused people for acts of survival including for parking, vehicle habitation, camping, and for occupying public spaces.
• An immediate moratorium on towing and impoundments of vehicles used for shelter.
• Reduce the harm of homelessness by providing increased public toilets and sanitation.
• Establish a full-service RV park in a location appropriate for RVs.
