A special Neighbourhood Public Square Supper Club to hear about and explore the next stages for CIVIC SQUARE as a physical site together.
About this Event

Join us for the next Neighbourhood Supper Club on Tuesday 28th May, 5pm - 8pm to gather, share food, discuss, and organise together, alongside neighbours from B16 and beyond, including the CIVIC SQUARE team.
As part of our wider Site As A Classroom activation during May half term, this special edition of Supper Club is a more specific invitation to share in the next part of the story for CIVIC SQUARE as a physical site, as we take the next practical steps of co-building the Neighbourhood Public Square openly and intentionally with all who want to join, following 5 years of focused listening, learning, experimenting, co-creating, dreaming and resisting in the neighbourhood together, within a longer arc of building, organising and visioning as part of wider ecosystems and movements in the city.
In addition to the warm welcome and chance to exchange over a nourishing meal that this monthly space is known for, learn more about the roles you can play in the next chapter of Neighbourhood Public Square, how this is situated in the collective journey with so many of you so far, and how we work together towards the shared goal of retrofitting the Icknield Port Loop site to be held in common for the neighbourhood for generations to come.

This will take the form of a welcome presentation around the updated, co-created vision for the Neighbourhood Public Square since 2019, followed by a number of hosted areas for joining conversations and activities across a range of connected topics including, but not limited to:
+ The next stages of physical site design and key spaces (such as microfactory, community kitchen, library and more)
+ How we are thinking about financing this, stewardship, and how this can be generative for other movements and forms of organising in the neighbourhood and beyond
+ What climate research tells us about the future challenges and opportunities our neighbourhood(s) will face, and how civic infrastructure can support us to meet these together
+ Fact-based dreaming through looking at inspiring regenerative building precedents from around the world that we can apply learnings from and build upon further together
+ Creative activities to make, draw, write and imagine possibilities for the site as a power station, a classroom, a playground, a shelter, a demonstrator, a love letter, and lots more, and why you think the future of the site will be important for the neighbourhood
+ Plenty of space for sharing questions, ideas, hopes and fears, that will be reciprocated with care, humanity and transparency, and many of which will be shared for us in how we are holding the tensions of navigating existing extractive systems whilst committed to designing for, embodying and realising the thriving safe and just, regenerative, distributed, open, joyful futures that we know are possible for our neighbourhoods, as far as we can within our lifetimes
If you’d like to join for the update and presentation to open the evening, please be sure to join promptly for the start time of 5pm, and where possible we would encourage this to help ground us in the bigger picture of the evening together. However, you are welcome to drop in any time as normal, and to be as active as you wish whilst in the space.
Regardless of whether it's your first or regular visit to Neighbourhood Supper Club, and whether or not you've been aware of or connected to the process of the Neighbourhood Public Square from TEDxBrum and Impact Hub Birmingham until now in any way so far, your thoughts, experiences and attention is so valuable, and we're excited to welcome or welcome you back at any point along the journey; now or in the future.

About Neighbourhood Supper Clubs
Neighbourhood Supper Clubs are a space to gather regularly, share food, ideas, and organise together, co-hosted and co-curated by CIVIC SQUARE and neighbours from B16 and beyond.
Taking place at Midland Sailing Club, their purpose is to connect with and support each other locally, while also looking beyond our city with visits from inspiring speakers, practitioners and activists from around the country. This space exists to highlight and celebrate organising that allows people to design, own and govern their response to the effects of climate change, including the retrofit of our homes, streets and neighbourhoods.
Whether you've come along regularly or it's your first time, you are warmly welcome to join and enjoy a plate of hot, tasty food with us. Building on the time spent regularly together here last year, Neighbourhood Supper Clubs will continue on the last Tuesday of every month throughout the year, so be sure to call by when you can.
Neighbourhood Supper Clubs are family-friendly and we'd love you to bring the children in your life along to draw, play and dream with us too. You can drop in at any point throughout the evening, leave when you need to, or settle in from the moment we open the doors until closing time!
