You are officially invited to join us at the May monthly meeting of the Historic Hernando Preservation Society. The business meeting begins at 6 pm, with a special guest speaker at 7 pm, May 2, 2024 at Brooksville City Hall. In May, HHPS welcomes Jo-Anne Peck, local historic preservation consultant and HHPS board member, who will discuss the historic Etna Turpentine Camp Settlement. Occupied during the early 1900s, the remains of the camp were discovered during a gas pipeline project. Archaeological excavations revealed much about life at the camp. Located within the Withlacoochee State Forest, the site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
