Does your child love stories and writing? In this three day course we'll look at creating a world - with maps, descriptions and examples!
About this Event

Sarah E Williams (www.writtenwithwilliams.com) presents this limited three session writing course for children aged 8-13. In each two hour session healthy drinks and snacks will be provided. By the end of these three sessions the children will understand how to build a fantastical world and make it believable!

Spaces are limited to six places for this course. We run various childrens courses and sessions in The Blue House Bookshop. Keep an eye out for our other sessions and let us know if you'd like to see anything in particular!

The structure of this course is as follows:

Session one: world building. We will look at our favourite written worlds and then the multitude of questions that need to be answered to create a convincing world. We will have activities in pairs and as a group.

Session two: writing as an object. In this session we'll look at how to write from different perspectives to get unusual views of the worlds we build in order to flesh out the detail of the worlds. We'll think about how to get into the mind of an unusual perspective and play some writing games to warm up.

Session three: map making. We'll build the maps for our world and describe the different areas of the place as we go! Parents are welcome to come and hear some of our writing at the end of this session!

Sarah E Williams is an experienced creative writing tutor. For over three years she has been teaching creative writing to children an adults alike via online platforms. Since moving to York she has taught various adult in-person sessions and is now collaborating with The Blue House Bookshop in order to bring her love of writing to younger students too. She brings excitement and enthusiasm to each class and helps every child believe that they can succeed in writing while enjoying the process.
