For all you folkies, pagans, summer lovers, nature appreciators, Morris dancers, soil lickers, crusties and whatever else... bring out your best flower crowns and jack-in-the-green outfits for our MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS on Sunday 5th May at our all time fav place, Platt Fields Market Garden!!
Brought together by UoM Folk and Ceilidh Society, The Manchester Urban Diggers, and Queer Roots Collective. We'll be bringing in the dawn at 05:20am (yes..... that isn't a mistake) on the Hill at Platt Fields Park with a spot of Folk music and warm bevs.
We'll come back together later on during PFMG farmer's market for a folk session from 11:30am. All are welcome to join, play, dance sing or sit and soak up the folky atmosphere in the gorgeous surroundings of the garden. This will be followed with a Hal an Tow at 14:30. This traditional Cornish May Day song will see us led around Platt Fields in order to drive out the old and welcome in the new. Willow crowns are not mandatory, but highly encouraged!
To wind up the celebrations we will be dancing around the May Pole, provided by the lovely folk at @wildrumpus from 15:00. We'll be teaching some Maypole dances and... Morris jigs too!!!!
Feel free to join at any point!! We'll be finishing up our celebrations at the garden at 19:00.
