This May we will explore the ongoing role that Asian Americans have played in shaping the United States. Join us each Saturday as we screen one episode of the film series Asian Americans and discuss AAPI heritage and identities with special guest speakers.

May 3rd | Episode 1: Breaking Ground
In an era of exclusion and U.S. empire, new immigrants arrive from China, India, Japan, the Philippines and beyond. Barred by anti-Asian laws they become America’s first “undocumented immigrants,” yet they build railroads, dazzle on the silver screen, and take their fight for equality to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Guest Speaker: Linda Tamura
Co-Editor-in-Chief at The Oregon Encyclopedia and Prof. Emerita of Education and Willamette University. Tamura is a Sansei (3rd generation Japanese American) daughter of a World War II veteran and an “orchard kid” raised in Hood River, Oregon.
Weekly Host: Jade Henness
President of the Asian Heritage Association of Yamhill County, Jade regularly gives presentations on Asian American history. She is also the Developoment Director of Hope Chinese Charter School where her two children are enrolled.
