During Prohibition, Detroit took advantage of its location on the international border. With 75% of liquor entering the United States through the "Detroit-Windsor Funnel," the Detroit River became the epicenter of the booze smuggling trade.
Join us for a very special boat tour on the Detroit River. On the largest of the Diamond Jack boats, we will cruise to the eastern end of the Detroit River, then west past the Ambassador Bridge. All the while, guests will enjoy a full buffet dinner, dessert, coffee, and soft drinks. There will be a cash bar available--what's a Prohibition tour without booze?
There will also be prizes! Every attendee receives a Prohibition-themed gift! Your guide (a descendant of bootleggers and a Detroit historian) will regale you of stories of those brave men and women who saw Prohibition as an economic opportunity. She will point out areas of interest along the Detroit and Windsor shorelines and will also display her collection of Prohibition artifacts.
In addition, artifacts found by the Detroit Underwater Recovery Team will be on display! Also, other bootlegging-era artifacts will be on display--including a still confiscated during Prohibition!
The tour leaves from the Stroh's River Place Dock at the foot of Jos. Campau Street (approximately 300 Joseph Campau). There is paid parking available at the Metropolis Parking Garage on Wight Street approximately a block from the Riverwalk. There is also on-street parking in the area.
We will have your name on our roster when you arrive. No passport needed to take this tour.
