Mattapan Community Canvas series

Starting July 6th and running every Saturday until September 28th, Mattapan Square will host a vibrant pop-up series designed to bring the community closer together. Each week from 10 am-8 pm, enjoy diverse events tailored to different age groups, from cookouts and salsa lessons in the square with professionals to carnival festivities, Haitian cultural expressions, Jamaican night, wine mocktail events, and Afrobeats sessions.

Community Canvas Pop-up events are sponsored by the Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, Office of Mayor Michelle Wu. The Pop-ups will take place in Nubian Square and Mattapan Square on Saturdays in July, August, and September.

This summer, have fun on a budget and experience the rich cultural tapestry of our community. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the summer!

July 6, 2024: AfroBeats. AfroEats. (4 pm- 8 pm) Enjoy an afternoon filled with the vibrant AfroBeat rhythms spun by DJ Ohh, savor delicious African cuisine experience lively entertainment. Enjoy an intense workout accompanied by African Rhythms. This event is a fantastic opportunity to connect with the community and celebrate African culture. Don't miss out on the fun and festivities!

July 27, 2024: Carnival Multi-Band Launch (4-8 pm) To start the Carnival season, Mattapan is hosting a Band Launch event for all the Carnival Masquerade groups to share their designs to engage with the community. Each group will showcase their amazing costumes for this year’s Carnival season while dancing to the rhythms and sounds of Tempo International Steel Orchestra. Local restaurant favorites will offer tasty Caribbean food dishes for purchase.

Carnival 27 de Julio de 2024: Para empezar la temporada de carnavales, Mattapan organizará un evento llamado “Band Launch” para todos los grupos de Carnival Masquerade para que muestren sus diseños y conecten con la comunidad. Todos los grupos mostrarán sus vestuarios del festival de este año mientras bailan al ritmo de los sonidos de Tempo International Steel Orchestra. Restaurantes locales ofrecerán sus platillos caribeños para que puedas disfrutar.
