Now firmly established as a critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter and guitar player, it’s somehow easy to forget that Matt Owens first came to prominence as a founder member of million-selling Indie band Noah and the Whale.Touring the world relentlessly between 2004 and 2014 Noah and the Whale released 4 platinum albums and played hundreds of festivals including Coachella, Japan’s Fuji Rocks and Lollapalooza, touring with the likes of Arcade Fire, Bahamas and Feist.
Prior to joining Our Man in the Field this year as Musical Director for the “Silverado” Album, Matt was already highly in demand as session musician and co-writer, working with everyone from Dave Stewart, Thea Gilmore, Robert Vincent, Elles Bailey, Guy Fletcher (Dire Straits) and Winston Marshall (Mumford and Sons.)
4 albums into his critically-acclaimed solo-career, his last release “Way Out West” was hailed as a “Masterpiece” by Uncut and a “Career Zenith” by Classic Rock Mag. His killer band of West Country All-Stars, The DVP, (Delusional Vanity Project for those in the know), have made a name for themselves as one of the fiercest live acts in the country.
The new single “Saints and Devils” is a beautiful continuation of Matt’s literate, idiosyncratic Song Noir. A tale of temptation and fallibility, it explores the shades of grey in all of us, perfectly showcasing his trademark guitar style, acerbic lyricism and immaculate band.
With a new album slated for release in 2026 and a slew of festival dates on the horizon it’s an exciting time to catch this artist at the top of his game.
