Bio
Bobby Dove is a Canadian singer-songwriter who is quickly becoming a magnetic presence in the world of Country and Americana music. With a voice as powerful as their storytelling, Dove pays tribute to the golden age of Country, while crafting original, emotionally charged songs that are fresh off the heartworn highway.
Bobby’s internationally acclaimed sophomore album, Hopeless Romantic (2021) includes some of the finest musicians on the Canadian roots music scene, including Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy, Bazil Donovan and Jimmy Bowskill.
Dove’s journey into the lore of early Country music started at The Wheel Club, a long-standing institution in their hometown of Montreal, Quebec. It was there that the budding troubadour was fortunate enough to be mentored by steel-player Bob Hill, and where Bobby picked up a variety of stringed instruments, sending them down a rabbit hole of pre-1965 honky tonk and bluegrass.
“I’m not sure if Hank Williams or Hank Snow kept a mistress in Montreal or Manitoba maybe we didn’t hear about and passed some genes down, or what has possessed Bobby Dove to become like a vessel or channeler for all the great classic country music influences we so sorely miss. But this is some of the most authentically-rendered and true-to-inspiration country music you can root out, while still holding onto enough originality to hit your ears with a welcomed freshness.” – Saving Country Music (USA)
Bobby Dove has given highlight performances at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival, Vancouver Island Music Fest, and Winnipeg Folk Fest. Along the road, Bobby has collaborated with luminaries such as Fats Kaplin (John Prine), Mary Gauthier, Richard Thompson, Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel), and Lavender Country.
Currently based in rural Manitoba, Bobby Dove is preparing to record a new full-length album with producer Aaron Goldstein (Cowboy Junkies), and is touring in spring and summer 2024, with stops at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa and Dauphin’s Countryfest.
