About this Event
Gallery MAR is honored to present Cataloguing the Periphery, a new solo exhibition by Matt Flint, an artist whose work lives at the edge of clarity, where the natural world slips in and out of focus.
For Flint, the act of painting is an expedition. He begins each canvas without sketches or plans, allowing every gesture to unfold directly on the surface. This process-driven approach, built on two decades of transformation, experimentation, and restless curiosity, creates richly layered works that mirror the shifting landscapes he explores.
Drawing inspiration from the rugged mountains near his home and the wildlife that moves quietly through them, Flint paints animals, plants, and terrains as if glimpsed in motion or seen at the threshold of memory. Textured surfaces, scraped passages, and evolving palettes echo nature’s own cycles of erosion, growth, and renewal.
Cataloguing the Periphery invites viewers into these fleeting moments of recognition, places where instinct meets observation, where the familiar becomes mysterious, and where the wild world reveals itself in fragments. Join us as we unveil a compelling new body of work from an artist who paints the way he walks the land: searching for the unexpected, guided by intuition, and always looking beyond the next ridge.
