Matt Axton is a gifted singer/songwriter whose roots in music run deep through a rich family heritage. “I grew up with music that filtered down to me from both sides of my family,” Matt recalls. “Each had a distinctly different connection to their craft, but it was that genuine love for music as a power for good that inspired their desire to embrace all that it could offer.” The Axton Musical Legacy
Nevertheless, coming from such auspicious lineage could be intimidating, but Matt has carved a mark all his own. Born and raised at Lake Tahoe, he spent his youth hopping on and off tour buses, hanging backstage, and soaking in the colorful world of showbiz. Ironically, music didn’t become his chosen path until an injury left him bed-ridden — with nothing but a guitar to pass the time. That spark ignited his lifelong musical journey.
After resettling in Los Angeles, Matt embraced the West as his muse. “Playing music makes me feel whole,” he insists. “When the song is clicking, and the band and audience are moving along to the groove, it's the best feeling in the world. It's my drug. It's the closest thing to magic I’ve found.”
With a style spanning country, folk, roots, rock, R&B, and pop, Matt has written 300+ songs and released three acclaimed albums (Blue Sky Rain, Matthew C. Axton, Badmoon). His single “Blue Sky Rain” stirs the heart with its soulful storytelling, while “Born of Chains” showcases his bluesy grit and unstoppable determination.
At the core, Matt is a storyteller. “My goal is simply to bring these anecdotal episodes to life and allow my listeners to take from them what they will,” he says. “I want the music to revolve around the lyrics — to honor tradition while keeping it contemporary, and to bring it full circle so that by the end, there’s either a lesson learned, or at very least, a reason to laugh, cry, or rock to the rhythm.”
