We live in a world that has largely forgotten and disregarded the importance of Matrescence; the developmental process of becoming a mother. Similar to adolescence, matrescence is a time of transition, a rite of passage that transforms almost every facet of a woman’s life. Becoming mother leads to metamorphosis physically, hormonally, psychologically, socially, even politically and spiritually.
Our Matrescence Matters series is about bringing deeper witnessing and support to this critical time in our lives. Each session will be facilitated by mothers, midwives and women who have a deep passion for supporting this essential life transition.
Women's wisdom has always been best held in circle, where the wisdom of each women is honoured and respected. This will be the foundation of each session with time for each woman to deeply connect to her own experience of matresence, wisdom and the questions she is exploring.
This 4 part series for all pregnant women (i.e. first time mothers or those already with children). We will cover 4 key topics:
Enhancing comfort & presence - coping mechanisms and advocacy for labouring women.
Embracing Active Labour - positions and techniques to support your birthing body
Understanding Breastfeeding - midwife tips to help your baby latch well in the early days
Normal Newborn Behaviour - Learn what to expect from your newborn during the first few weeks.
Each session will include practical skills you can apply during your birth and at home as well as an information session with our midwives.
There will always be plenty of time to ask your questions and receive support for the group.
If you wish to only attend one/some of the sessions, please contact us on instagram (@the_mammy_hub) and we will endeavor to facilitate you.
Our wish for this workshop is that it will be accessible for all. Fully funded places are available for those in need of support without the financial means to attend. Contact us on instagram (@the_mammy_hub) if you would like to avail of a fully funded space.
