This 36 hours bootcamp focuses on key areas of quantitative methods required for understanding key finance topics and undertaking research in the fields of finance and economics with a focus on quantitative approaches.Major learning topics will include:
- Differential and Integral Equations
- Linear Algebra, and
- Numerical Analysis
The bootcamp is specially suited for faculty members teaching at the undergraduate and post-graduate level and for researchers in the fields of finance, economics and allied areas.
Classes will be held on 15,17,22,24,29 April and 6,8,13,15,20,22,27 May 2025, each day from 10 AM to 1 PM at the BICM Campus (34 Topkhana Road, Dhaka-1000).
✏️Module 1: Differential and Integral Equation
In this module, participants will learn how to solve first order and second order linear differential equations, system of differential equations and integral equations by employing standard methods.

🖊️Picard’s Method of Successive Approximation, Stability of Linear System
🖊️Solving PDE Lagrange method and Charpit’s method
🖊️Solving the Linear Homogeneous PDE with Constant Coefficients (C.F. & P.I.)
🖊️Monge’s Method for Solving the 2nd Order PDE with Variable Coefficients
🖊️Solution of PDE using Laplace Transform
🖊️Solution of PDE using Fourier Transform
🖊️Solving the Heat Equation using Variable Separable Method
🖊️Solving the Wave Equation using Variable Separable Method
🖊️Preliminary concepts of Integral Equation
🖊️Conversion of ODE into integral equation
Module 2: Linear Algebra
In this module, participants will learn to perform various operations with matrices, and understand the applicability of Linear Algebra in different fields of knowledge.
🖊️Systems of Linear Equations and Matrices: Basic concepts of Linear system of equations, Block matrices, Matrix operations, Gaussian elimination, Gauss-Jordan elimination
🖊️Determinants: Determinants by Cofactor Expansion, Determinants and their properties, Cramer’s rule
🖊️General Vector Spaces: Vector Spaces, Linear independence, Rank-nullity theorem, Coordinates and Basis, Orthogonal projections
🖊️Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors: Eigen values, Eigen vector and diagonalization of a matrix
🖊️General Linear Transformations: Linear Transformations, Matrices for General Linear Transformations, Application of linear algebra
Module 3: Numerical Analysis
The objective of this module is to introduce a broad range of numerical methods for solving mathematical problems (where exact solutions are non-existent)
🖊️Root finding for non-linear equation (Bi-section, False position, Newton’s Method)
🖊️Interpolation (Newton’s backward, Newton’s forward, Lagrange method); Numerical integration
🖊️Numerical differentiation, Euler Method, Taylor Series
