Synopsis

Are you working on a novel or a short story collection? Do you know the difference among a developmental/structural edit, a copyedit and proofreading? What are top tips to editing your own work? Want to hear more about the publishing editorial process?

In this dynamic editing workshop, participants will engage in a series of live edit sessions using the techniques and strategies introduced in order to apply them to their own writing projects.

Optional: participants may also bring a short extract (up to 1000 words) of their own work to work on.


Programme Outline
  • Session 1: Strategies and Techniques for Developmental Edits + Short Exercises
  • Session 2: Strategies and Techniques for Copyedits + Short Exercises
  • Session 3: Proofreading and Journey to Publication
  • Impromptu Clinic: A chance for participants to talk about their projects and troubleshoot editing issues.


Tickets are inclusive of tea breaks and lunch.

About the Trainer:

Elaine Chiew is the author of The Light Between Us (longlisted for the inaugural Cheshire Novel Prize), The Heartsick Diaspora and editor/compiler of Cooked Up: Food Fiction From Around the World. Twice winner of the Bridport Prize, her stories have been anthologied in the U.K, U.S., and Asia, most recently broadcasted on BBC Radio 4. She was a former U.S. corporate attorney and is now based in London.


Cancellation:

The programme can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the programme date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to 5 working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Those who did not turn up at the workshop will not receive a refund.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation and withdrawal policy and accept the terms contained therein.
