NCPA is hosting a masterclass by the legendary Ratikant Mohapatra. Known for his deep knowledge and powerful style, he will guide students through the finer aspects of Odissi, helping them strengthen their technique and connect more deeply with the art form.
Ratikant Mohapatra has carved an enviable niche as a dancer, percussionist, teacher, choreographer and archivist. Over the last 40 years, he has firmly established Odissi dance in the consciousness of audiences worldwide, performing at numerous venues across India and abroad. As the Director of SRJAN, the dance institution founded by Kelucharan Mohapatra, and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Communication & Indic Studies (FACIS) at Sri Sri University, Mohapatra has created a world-class dance institute that attracts students globally for extended training in Odissi. His dedication has earned him prestigious accolades such as the Sanjukta Panigrahi Samman by the Sanjukta Panigrahi Trust, Nrithya Choodamani by Krishna Gana Sabha, in addition to Central and State Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards. An honorary doctorate in performing arts has been conferred on him by the Washington Digital University, USA. A crowning achievement in his illustrious career is creating a Guinness World Record by choreographing and directing 555 dancers in a classical Odissi composition, a landmark in the history of dance. Widely travelled, Mohapatra frequently conducts workshops and performances abroad, gaining insights into how international students and audiences appreciate the nuances of Odissi.
