In this hybrid workshop, participants will experience traditional craftsmanship shaped by Kyoto’s refined aesthetic sensibility. Guided by Toshihiko Inoue, a third-generation artisan of Inoue Kōundō Hyōguten, a Kyoto art-mounting studio founded in 1957, participants will learn from a master of the craft. Registrants will create a tabletop folding screen using traditional materials.This workshop introduces the techniques of Kyo Hyōgu (Kyoto-style art mounting), a craft that has long supported Japanese painting, calligraphy, and decorative arts. Participants will gain insight into how techniques passed down through centuries continue to influence contemporary design.
