Join us for a rare and resonant cinematic experience at The Frick Pittsburgh, inspired by "The Scandinavian Home: Landscape and Lore" exhibition. We’re thrilled to present Carl Theodor Dreyer’s 1925 silent masterpiece, “Master of the House.” A sharp-witted portrait of domestic life, brought to life with live musical accompaniment and a luminous 16mm film presentation.This special program is presented in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Silent Film Society, the Pittsburgh Silent Film Orchestra, and Pittsburgh Sound + Image. Now in our third year of partnership with the Pittsburgh Silent Film Festival, we’re proud to feature Festival Director Chad Hunter, Eric Cook, Director of the PSFO, and Steven Haines, Director of Programming for Pittsburgh Sound + Image — a dynamic team dedicated to preserving and celebrating the power of silent cinema.
Set against the backdrop of an exhibition exploring Scandinavian ideas of home, myth, and memory, this program invites audiences to reflect on the domestic realm, both on screen and in art, through a distinctly Nordic lens.
