Adults (16+)1 session
Pooja Campbell
Join Made in VA exhibiting artist Pooja Campbell for a master class inspired by her artistic viewpoint. Campbell creates paintings that weave together the figure and pattern in deep compositions that are rich with color.
Through discussion in the galleries and hands-on practice in the studios, Campbell will guide participants on how to combine figure, pattern, and color to create visually striking work with depth. We will do a brief delve into investigations of color interactions and transformation based on their position, followed by a discussion of material selection, color mixing, and brushwork with gouache. Using a straightforward image transfer process to seamlessly incorporate figures into our compositions, we will work with patterned paper, matte medium, stencils, and gouache to create two works of art.
Time will be spent creating compositional studies and practicing the handling of media before working independently on our own paintings. Students will be provided with supplies to create two 10×14-inch figure paintings that showcase their newfound skills. All materials are provided, though students are welcome to bring in their own printed images of figures to use as reference.
There will be a 30-minute lunch break, so please bring along a bagged lunch.
