About this Event
Master Class - Matcha and Wagashi Workshop
Step into a hidden Japanese room inside Asa Bakery Cafe for an intimate, hands-on cultural experience led by two master artisans from Kyoto to experience the art of Japanese tea and sweets.
Learn to create nerikiri wagashi with Wataru Kanaya, sixth-generation confectioner of Kyogashi Kanaya Masahiro (est. 1856). Participants will hand-shape seasonal confections made from sweet bean paste and mochiko, cherished in the Japanese tea ceremony.
Discover the world of matcha with Takaaki Saida, a fifth-generation stone smith who specializes in hand-carved stone mills. Master Saida will demonstrate grinding tencha leaves into fresh matcha using a traditional stone mill, while sharing the history, craftsmanship, and cultural significance of matcha.
