This is a THEATRE MASK MASTER CLASS Malmö open to all performers, dancers, actors, theatre-makers, musicians, even beginners; using masks, puppetry, object theatre and movement.
Places are strictly limited and the class is open to all, so participants need to book.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Mariana Araoz, professor of mask at Teaterhögskolan Malmö since 2013, and at Ecole du Jeu in Paris, is the Artistic Director of TMR Theatre In-Balance in Sweden, and of Maison de l'Equilibre du Genre/Collectif Masque in Paris. She divides her time between Sweden and France. Mariana specializes in gender balance, puppetry and masks. With her two companies in Sweden and France, she produces and directs plays, movies, conferences and workshops using the Mask and Puppets technique, creating a unique gender-fluid, peace and equality theatre style. Her work is regularly showcased internationally and in Sweden. Mariana teaches her In-Balance Method of physical theatre at some of the most renowned drama schools in the world and her book on the ©In-Balance Method is available for purchase.

ABOUT THE METHOD
The ©In-Balance Method is a unique method Mariana created throughout her work as a theatre-mask-puppet master as an actor, writer, director, and pedagogue and she is considered an expert in her field. Currently taught by Mariana in drama schools all over the world, the Method is based on her 30-plus years of experience in theatre and pedagogy.

ABOUT THE CLASS
The focal points of the ©In-Balance Method are:
-Transmission of knowledge
-Service on stage
-Balance of power
-Collective experience of movement, choreography and creativity
The In-Balance Method is thus aimed at finding balance within the theatre space, the stage, the performers, the group and the audience. At its core, this method invokes an equal amount of power distribution on stage. The story and its leading characters are brought to life by the ‘servants of the stage’, through mask and puppet configurations. Mariana Araoz has created
this storytelling form and named it: THE FLYING BIRDS.
The group in the master class will create a masked character collectively, connected to movement and nature.
The 3-hour class will cover:
- the In-Balance Method
- Flying Birds storytelling -tragedia/comedia
- the birth of a masked character
For attendees, please:
* be prepared to move around in the room
* wear comfortable clothes you can move in physically
* come dressed all in black
* bring a water bottle.
