A fabulous day is planned for a special pre-season steampunk photoshoot at this world heritage site with some of the best steampunk photographers you know & love!
Wear your favourite, best or new outfits, there's a toilet, or a room, where you could change if you wanted to have more than 1 outfit for the day...let me know if this is the case to arrange this facility.
The Mill is an awesome location with plenty of atmospheric photo backdrops showing this brutal & beautiful industrial age to it's finest. It's a fine working museum & as such you can also buy cotton twines & fabrics spun or woven on some of the looms you will see.
The excellent visitor centre welcomes you on arrival & is where the mill shop & cafe are situated. It has plenty of lovely & interesting places to sit, chat, socialise with friends between photos.
We also plan to showcase some of the fabulous work done by our very own steampunk community who are invited to bring along some of their beautiful outfits for you to look closely at the details, maybe find your own inspiration, get some encouragement & ask any questions you may have about starting a steampunk creation of your very own. (if you would like to bring something to display then please contact me with some details so I get an idea of numbers etc).
They also sell a few local crafts but the main interest would perhaps be the mill items for sale...wooden bobbins, shuttles, machinery, cottons, silk spools, jacquard punch cards, tools & 'stuff'...the guys will love it too...honest!
Going outside to the river side of the building you pass over a small pedestrian bridge where the water is directed underneath into the hydro power room where it now generates the electricity for the whole site, giving it green credentials in our modern world! Hopefully the weather is fine as this is a nice area by the river ...I saw a heron standing at the base of the wier on my site visit & was told there are kingfishers also.
The site is accessible, drop off outside the visitor centre before parking (the carpark lift is not operating), there is a working lift in the mill for you to access various locations.
Please inform us if you require disabled access so we are aware of your needs prior to your visit.
This old building brings the necessity to advise you of some low pipes, restricted headroom, uneven floors & dangerous machinery etc in places so care is a precaution to observe & all actions must consider your own personal safety, therefore, no climbing on machinery is allowed under any circumstances.
