About this Event

The 2024 Massillon Tiger Grip and Rip Challenge is a fund raising event for the Massillon Tiger Football Team that will be held before the annual Steve Studer Memorial Lift-A-Thon. Registration fees will be donated to the Steve Studer Strength and Conditioning Center for the purchase of new equipment and repairs.

The competition will work like this:Participants will choose a weight to bench press as many times as possible with a maximum of 30 reps. The weight will be multiplied by the number of reps completed and divided by the athlete's body weight. For examlple: Bob bench pressed 225 lbs for 11 reps and he weighs 185 lbs. 225 x 11= 2475. 2475 / 185= 13.38. Bob's score is 13.38. The top 3 scores in both Men and Women divisions will take home prizes.

RULES AND OTHER DETAILS

For a successful rep the bar must be lowered and make physical contact with the chest before coming to complete extension of both elbows at the top. Although we do not encourage you to raise your hips, have your head bobbling around, or removing your feet from the floor; as long as the bar touches the chest and comes to complete extension, the rep will be good. Athletes will be allowed to bench until failure, or until they verbally acknowledge they are finished. Judge's may also call for the spotter to take the bar if the safety of the athlete or others is in question. If a spotter touches the bar at any point in time during a rep, that rep will not count; but the athlete will have the option to complete more reps. Once the bar is racked, the attempt is completed and no more reps can be awarded. Each athlete will only have 1 attempt unless the head judge allows a repeat due to unforeseen extraordinary circumstances (no idea what that might be, but weird stuff always happens). Any inappropriate behavior, poor sportsmanship, or excessive whining and complaining will result in your disqualification of the event. It's a fund raiser, so come and have a great time.
