A free celebration of embroidery and creativity inspired by the work of Mary Linwood. Find out more about the embroidery artist Mary Linwood at this free event hosted by textile artist Ruth Singer. Mary Linwood was a celebrity embroidery artist from Leicester in the early 1800s. The exhibition Mary Linwood: Art, Stitch & Life is on at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, New Walk.
Over the weekend of 22 & 23rd November, we are running an event full of stitch activities, talks and discovery about Mary Linwood and much more.
The event runs Saturday 11am-3pm and Sunday 11am-3pm
Including
Embroidery to try – historic techniques and modern interpretations
Display of Mary Linwood’s materials and the chance to try her needle painting with wool technique
Study sessions each day of embroidery & dress from the time of Mary Linwood (from Ruth Singer’s personal collections)
Colourful cord-making (as seen in Connected Threads)
Talks and in-conversations with Ruth & experts Dr Heidi Strobel (Saturday) and Dr Isabella Rosner (Sunday)
Contemporary embroidery artist demonstrations and displays
Antique and vintage textiles, threads and books for sale
All activities are free, donations welcome. Workshops and activities are all drop-in, no bookings required.
