On 12th July, The I.C.A will be delighted to warmly welcome you and yours to a sponsored head shave to raise funds for the Stronger Together fundraiser in support of Galway Hospice, and Mayo Roscommon Hospice, when all round good-guy andwilling volunteer for everything community related, Martin Eagleton, will offer his locks in return for your sponsorship.
There are few of us who have not been affected by Cancer either directly or indirectly and many of us have experienced first-hand the invaluable services provided by Galway Hospice and Mayo Roscommon Hospice.
Edel Hyland is living with Stage 4 breast cancer, having been diagnosed in December 2021. Thankfully, she’s doing quite well at the moment. After attending a charity event recently Edel was overwhelmed by the positivity of the speakers (some of whom are terminally ill), and the significant amount of money
raised on the day. She left the event feeling very uplifted and inspired to do the same for others who are in a similar situation. Hence, the idea for the Stronger Together fundraiser was born.
The proceeds of this event will be divided equally between Galway
Hospice & Mayo Roscommon Hospice, because Edel’s family are only too familiar with the excellent and invaluable service which they provide. Edel herself has received palliative home care and in-patient treatment in Mayo Hospice for help and support with managing the symptoms of this disease and the side effects of the treatment.
Sadly, her sister Brigid passed away from cancer in Galway Hospice in April 2022, just four months after Edel received her devastating diagnosis. Their family is extremely grateful for the care and comfort that was given to Brigid during her final days there.
Edel, her sister Maureen, and their friends Martina, Niamh and Sharon are holding a fundraising event called "Lunch in Style", at The Lodge at Ashford Castle, on Oct. 5th, 2024. Edel is determined to make the most of every day, but it's difficult to do this alone. She relies heavily on the support of my family and many friends, and this initiative has given me a new project to focus on. Their group's ethos is that we are "Stronger Together".
