The City of Dunwoody invites residents to come together in service for the 10th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 19, 2026. Dunwoody Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., will mark the national holiday with volunteer projects and a blood drive.
“Every MLK Day of Service builds on the momentum of the year before,” said Christina Cage, Community Service Chair of the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. “Dr. King’s legacy inspires us to keep investing our time and energy into the communities we love.”
Residents are encouraged to register online and join one of several impactful projects:
Planting 86 trees at the Dunwoody Nature Center with Trees Atlanta
Planting 5,000 daffodils at Brook Run Park with the Daffodil Project
Cleanup and maintenance at the Dunwoody Community Garden and Orchard, including raking and rebuilding raised beds
Blood donations with the American Red Cross, available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at North Atlanta Church of Christ, 5676 Roberts Drive (pre-registration recommended)
"We are thankful for the hands and hearts that come together each year," said Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch. "Whether planting, cleaning, or giving, these projects show how we can honor Dr. King’s legacy by working side by side to strengthen our community."
Observed annually on the third Monday in January, the National Day of Service celebrates the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is the only federal holiday designated as a day of service, encouraging Americans to empower individuals, bridge barriers, and strengthen communities.
