After bumping into Naomi from Martha after Chewie's set at Manchester Punk Fest last month, and chatting about all sorts of things like how lovely & picturesque Durham is, people that we're all mutually fond of, and bands that we were excited to see at the fest, the conversation quickly turned into a bit of an interrogation as to why Martha doesn't really seem to play that many gigs in Ireland. The response was one of those "well, nobody really asks us" sort of answers, which was met with a "well sure I'm asking ya now pal!" - and here we are now!
Hailing from Pity Me, Durham, Martha play energetic, impassioned power pop with intricate vocal interplay and lush four-part harmonies. The band is comprised of J. Cairns (guitar), Daniel Ellis (guitar), Naomi Griffin (bass), and Nathan Stephens Griffin (drums). All four members sing and write the songs. They have a long string of top quality releases, all put out by some of the best labels within their niche, with their latest full length album "Please Don't Take Me Back" having been released by Specialist Subject Records in October 2022.
