MARQUEE SQUARE HEROES invite you to relive the moments that made Marillion one of the most exciting and enduring progressive rock bands of the 1980s.
Marillion’s Christmas shows are now a much-loved tradition — but rewind to 1984, and you’ll find the roots of that story in the Real to Reel tour. Following the huge success of their second album Fugazi, demand to see the band was immense. With bootleg recordings circulating among fans, EMI decided to capture the magic properly — and Real to Reel was born: a live mini-album that distilled the raw energy, emotion, and musicianship of a band at the height of their powers.
Those legendary Christmas gigs marked the start of something special. As 1985 dawned, Marillion turned their focus to what would become their biggest-selling record: Misplaced Childhood. With chart-topping singles like Kayleigh, Lavender, and Heart of Lothian, it cemented their place in rock history.
On that tour, audiences were treated to a preview — 17 breathtaking minutes of Misplaced Childhood performed live for the very first time. It left fans stunned… and the rest, as they say, is history.
🔥 This December, MARQUEE SQUARE HEROES faithfully recreate that magic — performing a set inspired by the Real to Reel shows, the entire Misplaced Childhood album in full, plus other classic Marillion favourites not featured on that original tour.
