About Sound of Paper
Origami can narrate stories, comes in all sizes and is for everyone.
Sound of Paper is the brainchild of Pooja Ugrani, an architect and teacher from Bangalore. Conceived in 2014, it offers services in origami, be it custom decor embellishments, gift collectibles, paper jewellery, retailed in several boutique stores in Bangalore, or teaching the art to others and spreading knowledge about the same. Pooja’s first memory of origami includes her grandfather, who would make paper frogs and boats and gift it to her as a child. This memory revisited her in her final year of architecture as she began exploring patterns and tessellations in space. From then on, there has been no looking back. Tinkering with bits of paper led her to one conclusion, that she should let the paper do all the talking.
Sound of Paper believes that origami need not be a solitary, tabletop activity, but can explore creating larger volumes of space through collective efforts with paper to give rise to engaging installations. We have conducted origami sessions and workshops for kids as well as adults across cities such as Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Alapuzha, Kollam, and Ahmedabad. We have conducted sessions for Pratham Books, Delhi Public School, J D Institute of Fashion Technology, Firstsource and also at the Courtyard community, Cubs of Cubbon, Sunday Soul Santhe, Angsana Resort, Asha Kiran, and Artfully Yours. We have also conducted weeklong origami installation workshops for architecture students from Sir J J College of Architecture, Mumbai, Pillai`s HOC College of Architecture, Rasayani, AIKTC School of Architecture, New Panvel, D Y Patil College of Architecture, Navi Mumbai, Vellore Institute of Technology, and School of Architecture, REVA University, Bangalore. We have retailed online and at three boutique stores in Bangalore namely Levitate at Indiranagar, Asmara at HRBR layout and Turtle Doves in Jayanagar. We have taken sessions and exhibited at the Green Bazar, the Handmade Collective by A Hundred Hands, the Japan Habba, Bangalore (annual event) and a hands-on day-long workshop at Kochi for 200 participants.
In a world that fights screen time and is desperately searching for activities that can actively engage the mind, Pooja believes that origami as an art form works beautifully on our hand-eye coordination and calms us down. It betters our focus and gives us tactile and alive experiences that go a long way in shaping us as unique individuals.
