Maritime Heritage Festival Launches this September!

Location: Halifax Waterfront behind the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, 1675 Lower Water Street.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, HMCS Sackville and Build Nova Scotia together with more than 25 ocean and maritime-sector partners, is launching the inaugural Maritime Heritage Festival, taking place September 13–14, 2025. This free, family-friendly event will transform the Maritime Heritage District on the Halifax Waterfront, spanning from the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic to Sackville Landing and HMCS Sackville.
Exhibitors will showcase ocean innovations alongside rich maritime cultural experiences, performances, and programs. Visitors can enjoy a diverse program that includes:
· Tours and activities aboard CSS Acadia and HMCS Sackville
· Pop-up exhibitions from Nova Scotia Museums and other heritage attractions.
· Raina the mermaid and Back to the Sea touch tanks!
· Royal Canadian Navy demonstrations, presentations, and exhibitions
· Hands-on learning and youth boat building programs (highlighting the recently announced Boat School)
· Lively musical performances in the Museum anchor yard, including: Drummers From Home, Yarmouth Shantymen, Celtic Ensemble, Boarding Party, Halifax Newcomer Choir and the Stadacona Band. Performance times to be posted soon.
Other Participating Partners include: COVE, Nova Scotia Sea School, Sea Turtle Network, Royal Canadian Navy, Sea Cadets, Bluenose II, Naval Museum, Shearwater Aviation Museum, Mermaids of Halifax, Back to the Sea, Canadian Global Network, Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History, Canada’s Immigration Museum at Pier 21, Parks Canada, Ocean Tracking Network, Bedford Institute of Technology, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and many more.
A special kick off event will take place Friday September 12th. featuring Cassie & Maggie.
