Experiment with kid-friendly ways to create block prints and have fun decorating paper and fabric with your own bright designs.Finnish design brand Marimekko is instantly recognizable and loved worldwide for their giant, bright, and bold flowers, stripes, and geometric designs. The most famous Marimekko print design is the Unikko poppy from 1964. The bold flower design is just as popular today as ever.
In this workshop, you will draw your own designs, using nature as inspiration for simplified shapes, colors, and patterns, just like Marimekko. You’ll then experiment with turning your drawings into different types of printing blocks to ink up and have fun printing your own fabric and paper. Your end creations will be suitable for framing, cardmaking, or wearing!
The instructor will guide you through the steps from drawing to block print making and printing, using foam, cardboard, Styrofoam, and other kid-friendly materials, and printing on quality paper and cotton fabric. No carving tools will be used, just scissors, pens, glue, and fabric paint!
Great for ages 8 and up. Kids under 8 may need adult assistance.
This is a multi-generational activity! An adult guardian is required for children under the age of 18. Adult guardians do not have to purchase a ticket if they only plan to assist children in the craft. Adults who plan to make their own craft are required to purchase a ticket.
Enough materials will be provided to decorate at least one cotton bandana, and one 11 x 17 poster that can be used for framing or transformed into smaller pieces or cards.
