Cicada Rhythm
Born and raised in Georgia, this talented pair imitates and modernizes folk music to a rejuvenating degree. The sound of Andrea DeMarcus and Dave Kirslis exhibits skilled and articulate guitar picking honed in the dive bars of Atlanta over rolling Julliard-trained bass lines. Athens Cowboy Choir
For nigh on a dozen years, The Athens Cowboy Choir has been choraling the songs of the old west back into the herd, serenading the weary traveller with songs to quell the lonesomeness of the dusty trail, so devoid of city niceties. This ragtag posse of local Athens musicians, come slicked up in their cowpoke duds and are equally at home on the range, the stage, or the local saloon. In the spirit of the Norman Luboff Choir, their voices come together in mellifluous harmony, conjuringsongs we seem to remember, but don't rightly know how -- the likes of "Poor Lonesome Cowboy" and "Ghost Riders in the Sky." Reaching deep into the cowboy songbook, the boys will make you swear you just spent an evening resting your tired bones around the campfire after a long day on the range. And though the trail may be long and treacherous, it's these kinds of songs that keep us company on the long drive home.
Wet Meadows
Wet Meadows is a botanical rock band from Athens, GA. They make songs that directly or tangentially address plants, employing sounds from across the spectrum of 60's and 70's rock 'n roll.
"Notice how the plants of the Mall (and, largely, those on the windowsills of all our houses) reflect a deep commitment to an imperial and colonial legacy (what we now call globalism)! This is indeed the concern of Botanical Rock, and well within its purview.
As to the question of Pluto, I would ask in return, is there not wisdom in pondering whether induction into a cult of juvenile, besotted Pluto worshipers is really all that different from being drawn, gradually, inexorably, into the uniquely American cult of abject consumerism? In solidarity do we not all, regardless of station, recite, "Lo Pa Ta Re!" -- some louder, some so quietly as to be hardly discernible? "
