The MFSA is excited to welcome Arizona’s Chief Heat Officer to our August meeting.
When we last gathered, the first signs of our summer heat were just coming into view. In the last two months Arizona has again seen heat records broken and dangerously high temperatures.
In response to 2023’s record-breaking summer, Governor Katie Hobbs issued Arizona’s in March of this year to provide a framework for 2024 and beyond. One key recommendation was the creation of a statewide Chief Heat Officer, the first of its kind in the nation. was appointed to this role and the MFSA is excited to welcome him to our August meeting. Dr. Livar will be sharing real-time information on the plan’s implementation and his role.
Community partners are also key to heat response and the MFSA is also excited to have join us to share more detail about their work in overseeing Heat Relief Centers throughout the valley.
Finally, we are pleased to welcome back Children’s Action Alliance to provide a lookback on this year’s legislative session and the impacts of the final budget, particularly on children and families.
