Then we head north for pillowy semlor — cardamom buns overflowing with almond paste and clouds of whipped cream.
Next, it’s time for the fryer. You’ll make golden pączki, the rich, Polish doughnuts traditionally eaten before Lent, along with delicate Italian angel wings dusted generously in powdered sugar. And finally, we circle back to the States to finish with a fragrant Louisiana King Cake, braided, baked, and lavishly frosted in Mardi Gras colors.
