The St. Augustine Music Festival and St. Johns Cultural Council present a special Juneteenth event starring virtuoso pianist Marcus Roberts and the Modern Jazz Generation, featuring Jason Marsalis. This program is part of a series of events commemorating the 60th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act in 1964, which was largely influenced by demonstrations in St. Augustine.
Roberts will perform his program "From New Orleans to Harlem" which will include a 100th-anniversary arrangement of "Rhapsody in Blue" with members of the SAMF orchestra.
Marcus Roberts was a student at the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind in St. Augustine, the same school attended by pianist Ray Charles decades earlier.
General admission tickets are ON SALE NOW for $30 | tickets increase to $40 after May 19.
