P&T Knitwear is pleased to welcome author Marcus Hunter for a discussion of his newest book, Radical Reparations: Healing the Soul of a Nation — in which one of the country's foremost voices on reparations offers a radical and vital new framework, offering a unifying way forward for us all — with a discussion, audience Q&A, and book signing!

Marcus will be joined in conversation by critically acclaimed filmmaker Melissa Haizlip. After the talk, Marcus will sign copies of his book.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

is the Scott Waugh Endowed Chair in the Social Sciences Division, Professor of Sociology & African American Studies at UCLA. Coiner of #BlackLivesMatter, Hunter served as the Inaugural Chair of UCLA's African American Studies Department and President of the Association of Black Sociologists. The National Science Foundation and Social Science Research Council have also supported his research. In addition, Hunter drafted and advised Congresswoman Barbara Lee's historic Bill to establish the first-ever US Truth, Racial Healing, & Transformation Commission. He has appeared on C-SPAN's BookTV, MSNBC, BBC, NPR, in the Sacramento Bee, the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, the Washington Post, and the New York Times. His previous books include , , and The New Black Sociologists (Sociology Re-Wired).

ABOUT THE MODERATOR

As a Peabody Award-winning producer, director and writer, ’s work has been featured on Netflix, HBO Max, Peacock, CNN, PBS, and E!, among other platforms. Her work responds to pressing social issues at the intersection of racial justice, social justice, activism, representation and reparations. Melissa has been recognized with a writing achievement award from the NAACP Image Awards, and is the recipient of the 2020 Critics Choice Documentary Award for Outstanding Debut Feature for her film The film was nominated for an Emmy Award and shortlisted for the Oscars. Her upcoming film is based on the new book , by Marcus Anthony Hunter.
